What does it mean to worry? To worry is to give way to anxiety or unease; allow one's mind to dwell on difficulty or troubles. We all know of someone or maybe we ourselves are prone to worry. So why is it such a common thing we hear of so often?
"I worry about my kids"
"I worry if I will have enough money"
"I worry about my conference next week"
"I worry if I am going to pass my test"
"I worry about my health"
So what is it that all our worrying gives us? What if we look at worry as something that is based out of fear. Then it goes to reason that the things we are worrying about are giving us an illusion of control.
I know for me personally I would find myself worrying about something that was a week away. I could make myself sick about it, lose sleep over it and just stress myself out about it. Then when the dreaded day finally came it would some how all work out. Which really got me to thinking "how much energy was drained out of me for absolutely nothing"? It was in that moment I decided that worry was the most wasted thing I could spend my energy on.
The key is to stay in the present, the here and now! Worry is when our brain is way ahead of where we are. That doesn't mean we can't plan for the future, it simply means we aren't giving it more energy than is necessary. When you start to feel worried about something the question to ask is "is there anything I can do about it" and if yes take action if no then just set it aside.
